International Programs
Tokai University School of Medicine has established exchange agreements with medical schools worldwide, actively promoting international exchange for students and faculty.
Three Pathways
Programs designed to develop globally minded physicians from enrollment through graduation.
HMEPHawaii Medical Education Program
In 2016, Tokai University signed an agreement with the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) to become a partner institution for HMEP — a program dedicated to internationalizing Japanese medical education and nurturing physicians who can thrive on the global stage.
Open Cross Class (OCC)
For years 1–3. Saturday medical English classes that develop international thinking skills. No assignments or attendance requirements, no enrollment limits. Video recordings are available for self-paced learning.
Hawaii Preparation (HCCPP)
A 2-week observational program at the University of Hawaii that prepares students for U.S. clinical settings before starting CC.
Clinical Clerkship (CC)
For years 4–6. English-medium clinical rotations at the HMEP International Teaching Hospital (HITH). Available in 8 departments: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Psychiatry, and Geriatrics. Minimum 2-month rotation per department recommended. Cost: ¥30,000/month (housing available).
Medical English isn't built in a day. That's exactly why you should take that first step — starting right now, today. Begin in year 1, and you'll be ready for overseas electives by year 5.
